(Halloween News) Dead horse and belling ground - Trinidad & Tobago Express

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

I suppose it had to do with the stories that my family told about ghosts or jumbies, and the plenitude, or one would say panoply, of evil spirits that abounded in the pre-electricity days in our rural village. There were things about brooms in doorways and throwing down salt, opening a bottle of rum and drinking it without throwing some out as a libation to the spirits, and forgetting to light the lamp at six o’clock. It was all right when lighted up on All Saints Night, and I would stand uneasily among the candles waxing warm and place crepe-paper wreaths on the iron grillwork, adorned with spears, but I was not wandering beyond the flickering lights and pretty girls all in a row, not me. The Mayor of the village of Sarpourenx told the 260 people living there that “all persons not having a plot in the cemetery and wishing to be buried in Sarpourenx are forbidden from dying in the parish. Halloween News - McCain: Purim = Halloween? - MSNBC

Friday, March 21st, 2008

So the old gasbag is on a pork barrel photo op trip at the taxpayers expense to raise money for his campaign, continues to make a spectacle of the fact that he doesn’t know his ass from a hole in the ground about ANYTHING-and continues to get a free pass from the press. Halloweem is based on various pagen rites and rituals (I could be wrong about that); Purim is based on the story (and book in the bible) of Esther where she is given information about the up-comming plan to kill all the Jews in Persia. Denise, I agree with you–how come what Obama’s PASTOR says is a big collosal national event, yet McCain can misstate who is a terrorist getting trained by whom and returning to somewhere and he equates one of the most beloved beautiful and historical Jewish holy days as equivalent to HALLOWEEN and THEY ALL LAUGH IT OFF! As long as they dont tell me what to wear, say, where to work, who to marry, where to live, but provide me with good infrastructure, environmental restrictions to safe guard our resources and national treasures, social security, reasonable military security IN AMERICA ITSELF, I will return the favor by paying my taxes, not committing crimes, not bilking the system, being as efficient a resource user as I can, and buying american everywhere I can! Go ask Alice/Bunny business - Bridgewater Independent- Halloween News

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

The Easter Bunny, we inexplicably tell our children is the purveyor of that candy — a hard-working hare who hops from home to home filling baskets, no help from flying reindeer, no known means of transportation other than his big, fuzzy white rabbit feet – which must be as sturdy as they are lucky. While shopping there last weekend, my husband and I noticed a small group of pre-school aged children lined up to meet the Easter Bunny — a dapperly dressed white rabbit who communicated with the tots strictly by gesturing with his furry white hands, or is it paws? Easter Bunny,” the furious boy screamed in response to the invitation by my startled husband, before running out of the room and as far away from the guy in the brown rabbit suit as he could get. A decade has passed, and while my husband has never expressed a renewed interest in replaying the role, I see him checking out the Easter Bunny at the mall, wondering where he laid his hands on that nice fluffy white costume and whether it would have made a difference in winning over those kindergartners. Topic: Halloween News - Strong Sales For Candy - Convenience Store Decisions

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Convenience stores continue to be a dominant retail outlet for confections, and the outlook for 2008 is just as strong. In terms of category share, chocolate candy accounted for 56% of category sales, followed by non-chocolate (33%) and gum (11%). For example, studies show that marketing candy items at the cooler, the front counter or the coffee area doesn’t cannibalize sales, but augments them. Confections, unlike most other in-store categories, are heavily geared for seasonal sales spikes with demand peeking around the major "candy holidays," Valentine’s Day, Easter, Halloween and Christmas. Major sales increases were evident during each of these holidays in 2007, the report said, with the biggest jump (6. NCA projects sales gains for all holidays in 2008 with the exception of Easter, for which it’s forecasting a nearly $80 million decline. More Halloween News

Huntington Beach man guilty in Halloween stabbing - OCRegister- Topic: Halloween News

Monday, March 17th, 2008

SANTA ANA - A Huntington Beach man who was angry that he was about to be evicted from a boardinghouse was convicted of first-degree murder Thursday for the stabbing death of his roommate. The same jurors will now be asked to decide if Vladimir Benitez, 28, was legally sane when he stabbed and killed Camilo Martinez-Santiago, 32, in the living room of a home where both men were staying. Senior Deputy District Attorney Sonia Balleste, however, argued that Benitez planned and premeditated the slaying after he learned he was about to be evicted. Balleste said Benitez left the Huntington Beach house for several days, but returned on Halloween 2005, grabbed a knife from the kitchen and stabbed Martinez-Santiago as he slept. Click yourself free of pesky catalogues - Los Angeles Times- Halloween News

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

And if a baddie company’s still stuffing your mailbox, you can report the infraction for Catalog Choice to take care of. I do, however, keep getting them from Garden Botanika — a purportedly green company that sells products chock-full of parabens — despite the fact that I’ve called TWICE requesting them to bug me no more. Unfortunately, they weren’t in Catalog Choice’s list yet, but a quick popup box let me request Catalog choice to add them to their list. I receive a copy of Pennysaver in the mail every week and I think it’s such a waste of resources. Security certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the server. More Halloween News
