(Halloween News) Courts continue to unwind Halloween bandit case - KTUU

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — One of the four so-called “trick-or-treat bandits,” accused of robbing children in Talkeetna at gunpoint on Halloween, has changed her plea on federal charges. Kendra Butts, 19, originally pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to obstruct justice stemming from the Halloween 2007 robbery. Federal prosecutors say Aaron Tolen and Michael Wilson were arrested the night of the robbery. Then, according to prosecutors, Wilson called Butts from jail and asked her to remove a dozen guns from a truck he was riding in, or else burn the truck itself. Wilson made these requests, prosecutors allege, so that he could avoid potentially being charged in federal court as a felon in possession of firearms. Last week, Butts pleaded guilty to one count of robbery in state court for her role in the crime. More Halloween News

(Halloween News) Halloween robber enters plea - Anchorage Daily News (subscription)

Sunday, May 11th, 2008

Butts, accused of robbing several trick-or-treaters in Talkeetna of their Halloween candy, is charged with six counts of robbery and seven counts of assault. Both women are being held at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility, Butts in lieu of $75,000 bail and Martin in lieu of $50,000 bail. She and Amber Martin, 20, of Wasilla were charged with seven counts of robbery, one of attempted robbery and eight counts of assault stemming from the holdup of seven children, ages 10 and 11, on Main Street. The children told troopers that that night a pickup stopped and two women in ski masks exited, threatened them with a handgun, fired a round in the air and demanded their bags of candy. Later that evening, troopers apprehended two men, Butts’ and Martin’s boyfriends, at a diner in town after some of the same children spotted the truck parked outside. More Halloween News

(Halloween News) The first Halloween I remember I spent bundled up with - Vermont Public Radio

Friday, May 9th, 2008

Unite your love for VPR and the Red Sox with a VPR trip to Fenway Park to see the Boston Red Sox play the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday, July 12th. For the first time in my life I wasn’t living in a valley and I couldn’t tell what direction I was facing without any natural features to guide me. When I had the freedom to decide where to live I chose to move back to the Green Mountain State and settled in a different valley. In part the decision to return was as simple as reconnecting with the mountains, field, and rivers that were so familiar and offered me a sense of place and identity. More Halloween News

Hare: Farewell to dorm life - Diamondback Online(Halloween News)

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

The rooms are tiny, the hallways are drafty, the trash cans constantly overflow, the bathrooms are a bit shady and yes, the men’s side always smells somewhat “musky. Most of the dorms at the university have no air conditioning, and, in fact, they seem to have a rather uncanny lack of air circulation, particularly in the sweltering weeks at the beginning and end of the school year. The microwave is in the lounge, the bathroom is down the hall, laundry facilities are far below in the basement and there is nowhere to cook your own food. In a dorm, there is always something to do and someone to do it with, and there is always a distraction just around the corner. There is rarely a moment’s peace in a dorm, and a lot of time is spent watching your back, waiting for someone to throw a pie in your face, fill your room with cardboard boxes or walk off with your mattress when you happen to leave the door unlocked. It’s late-night cramming for finals; it’s watching away games on a TV that’s too small; it’s planning the night so you shower at the same time as your roommate; it’s running (or biking) through the halls at 4 a. Topic: Halloween News - The Simpsons ride, Universal Studio's newest adventure, gives up … - Orlando Sentinel

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

Universal Studios has opened The Simpsons Ride to the public, and we may be on the verge of an outbreak of bright-yellow fever. It’s also tight quarters back there, so if you are prone to claustrophobia — which is one of the conditions the attraction alerts guests to, right there with the usual heart ailment and pregnancy red flags — conspire for front-row seating. I’ve seen the wait posted as high as 90 minutes, but the times I’ve been in line the wait was a little less than the park anticipated. The exterior of the building (much improved over its former Back to the Future facade) plays an optical trick with the queue. The ride’s computer-generated look is reminiscent of a Halloween episode where Homer enters a three-dimensional world that reminds him of the movie Tron. More Halloween News
