WHO'S COOKING - Newsday- Halloween News

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

It’s really easy because I get the dough from a local pizzeria; before you eat it, you have to take a picture and sing the national anthem. Flour the surface of a 12-by-17-inch rimmed baking pan; roll the dough out to about 1/4-inch thickness or spread the dough out evenly with your hands to fit the pan. This is the “dark blue” area of the flag; place it in the upper left-hand quadrant of the sauced dough. Cut circles, as small as you can, from the eggplant slice and place them, in some regular pattern, on the unskinned eggplant half to make a field of “stars. More Halloween News

Looking through a Scary Halloween Mask at the World

Sunday, June 29th, 2008
by Susan West

For centuries people have donned masks for multiple reasons from masquerade balls to religious rituals to Halloween, or Samhain, parties. Across the world, in many different countries for many different reasons masks have become a way for people to transform into someone else for the day. In theater masks are used to change from one character to another. Masks can be almost magical and are appealing to many, especially on Halloween.

For some people, when they begin to determine what they would like to dress up as for Halloween, may start with their costume and then go about choosing just the right mask to accentuate their Halloween costume, while others will first choose their Halloween mask and then build their costume around it. Since everyone is different, neither of these choices is better than the other when it comes to choosing a Halloween mask and accessories. In other words, choose your Halloween costume and mask in the manner that best fits your needs.

Halloween masks add both excitement and mystery to your costume while being wonderful accessories. However, while choosing the perfect Halloween mask you should know that some of the most realistic looking ones are the latex masks. When choosing a latex mask you can be just about anything from an alien, animal or insects. You may also choose from a wide assortment of Halloween masks that include your favorite television shows, movies and cartoon characters.

Unless of course you would rather show up in a scary mask while trick or treating, door to door or simply enjoying time with friends and family while carving a Halloween pumpkin, there are so many to choose from. Such as Jason or Freddie masks as well as a large and wonderful assortment of goblins, ghouls, corpses and creepy clowns. Although, we should not forget the classics like Frankenstein, werewolves, zombies, ghosts as well as Presidents, goons, monsters and other masks of mayhem.

There are also witches, wizards, pirates and Mardi Gras masks. Old men and women masks are also popular as well as going to a haunted house wearing a Game Face sports ball mask. Although, you may also choose a Halloween mask that is not so frightful such as queens, kings, princess, angels, fairies, unicorns and dragons.

Whatever your taste, you’re sure to find a mask that fits you both in size and in preference. Of course, you don’t need to be a child to enjoy Halloween; if costumes aren’t your speed, simply wear your favorite outfit and don a mask to top it off at your next Halloween party.

If you’re not sure what your child might like, some of the most popular Halloween masks for children last year were the Disney Princess, Power Rangers, Ghost and Ghoul, Fairy, Gypsy, Superhero, Witch, Spider-Man, Superman, Princess, Pirates, Witch, Pumpkins, Vampires and Cats. Favorite masks for the adult group included Ghost and Ghoul, Fairy, Gypsy, Superhero, Clown, Cat, Vampire, and Pirate. Whatever you choose, you should have a lot to pick from. You should keep in mind, though, that the best choices are likely to be gone early, so make your choice as soon as you can. If you wait too long, your particular favorite might be gone. Blood feud - North Shore Sunday- Topic: Halloween News

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Tropical Products makes about a million orders of the costume blood every year, and now they’re producing a line to benefit the city of Salem. Officials were on board with the idea and plans began to roll out to design the label with the Haunted Happenings logo and pitch it to local vendors, especially tourist shops where the product would best sell. The blood, however, has struck a nerve — or a vein — because the bottles they’re being packaged in bear the Haunted Happenings logo, which includes the image of a witch flying on a broomstick. Kate Fox is the director of Destination Salem, the city’s public-private tourism agency, which has been involved in planning the rollout of Haunted Happenings Costume Blood. The only reason a witch is pictured on the bottle is that it’s part of the Haunted Happenings logo, and it’s a Haunted Happenings product. The blood is intended mostly for tourists, who he believes will buy it not because of a correlation to the past, but to enhance a costume and take home a souvenir. More Halloween News

HALLOWEEN Parts Ways With Guitarist - June 22, 2008 - Blabbermouth.net(Halloween News)

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

Donny has been a staple in this band for over 16 years and we love him like a brother, he will always be family and we hope the best for him. As soon as we get some of the mixes finalized, we will be putting a couple of tracks up for everyone to check out. As a Halloween fan I have no beef with the German fast Maiden type of band, but Halloween’s “Don’t Metal with Evil” as a cassette demo album, predates The Helloween EP, by a year or more. Blood money: City hopes Halloween novelty opens a fresh vein of cash - The Salem News- Topic: Halloween News

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

The owner of Tropical Products, which manufactures shampoos, hand sanitizers and moisturizers on Highland Avenue, heard about the School Department’s financial crisis and offered to make his own unique donation to the city — fake blood. Still, with an estimated 100,000 revelers converging on downtown Salem on Halloween night alone, not to mention the thousands that pour in each weekend throughout October, it’s hard to imagine the fake blood won’t be a moneymaker for the city and for downtown retailers. On the other hand, shop owner Christian Day, who also runs the Festival of the Dead, said the idea shows the city is willing to get creative when it comes to bringing in revenue. Ed Berman, president of Tropical Products, with a 4-ounce bottle of the costume blood his company is donating to the city of Salem. More Halloween News

Three Men and their Fathers - Jewish Comment(Halloween News)

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

Like my fellow Philadelphian Bill Cosby, the entertainer much maligned and even shunned by a wide section of black America , Obama delivered some home truths in his speech, reminding the audience that a juvenile delinquent is in fact the product of delinquent fatherhood. In fairness to the African American community, church is central to life and thousands of young people have been kept away from gang and drug culture through the tireless efforts of the Baptist Church across the United States. She resents the holiday that celebrates fatherhood and makes an unfortunate reference to going ‘back to the coalface;’ I do not believe she deliberately set out to trivialise the memory of coal miners, but angry bloggers did write in to remind her that Father’s Day was created to honour the 361 miners, mostly fathers and poor immigrants who lost their lives in a 1908 coalface explosion in Moongah, West Virginia. I spent my childhood in USA and every national observance, be it Memorial day, Veterans’ Day ( the Americans honour and value their vets more than we do, that is for sure) President’s Day, Flag Day, Arbor Day, Martin Luther King Day, Independence Day or Thanksgiving, is a reason to be with family and the media make sure children know what these days signify; the schools prepare children to know the meaning of these commemorations ahead of the holiday. Sitting on a bus yesterday I looked at my watch and knew that in Washington at that very moment Tim’s memory was being honoured at the Kennedy Centre by the great and the good including Barack Obama, John McCain and the Clintons, as well as by his elementary school teacher, a nun, and by ordinary Washingtonians. Gill Hornby seems to have a narrow view of family life and writes an erroneous history of American holidays; in the same weekend in which Tim Russert died, leaving so young a son, and in which Barack Obama reminded fathers of their obligations, Flag Day was celebrated across America. 'Mortal' lock is one to be admired - San Diego Union Tribune(Halloween News)

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Only the hardest of hearts could fail to feel something for Mediate, the jabbering journeyman with the peace symbol belt buckle and the nervous energy of a second-grader on a Halloween high. For the second time in as many days, Mediate was denied an Open title by a Woods birdie on the 18th hole, only to be consigned to second place when he failed to match Woods' par on No. For the first time in his astonishing career, Tiger Woods is starting to feel the advance of age and the decline of his body. Woods never did go into detail about the extent of his injury or the specific measures he has taken to mitigate it, but he appeared to throttle back on some of his shots – presumably to minimize stress on his knee. Halloween News - Fake firefighter says he'd go on rampage if released - Newsday

Monday, June 16th, 2008

NEW YORK (AP) _ The former fashion writer convicted of sexually tormenting a co-worker while dressed as a firefighter says he’d go on a homicidal rampage if released from an Ohio prison. Last year, Braunstein was sentenced to 20 years in prison for robbery, burglary and sexual abuse, and 18 years to life in prison on a kidnapping conviction. Authorities said Braunstein set off smoke bombs in the hallway outside the victim’s Manhattan apartment on Halloween night 2005 as a ruse to get into her home. He then drugged her, tied her to a bed, stripped her naked, and over the next 13 hours videotaped and molested her. The 44-year-old is also accused of robbing a Cincinnati doctor at gunpoint and tying him up in his office while on the run from New York police. Braunstein told the News that if he ever got out of prison he’d likely go “on some insane homicidal rampage,” targeting enemies in the fashion world. More Halloween News
