Getting Your Pets Into The Halloween Spirit

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008
by Phil Sikes

People dress up like animals all the time for Halloween - why not go the opposite way and dress your pets up like people? After all, pets are part of the family for a lot of people. They take them everywhere, buy them gifts, get spa treatments for them - why not a Halloween costume too?

Of course, the pet’s owner is going to have more fun dressing up their pet than the animal itself will have. Remember, though, that you know your pet best.

Some pets don’t like wearing clothes at all. If they are showing signs of stress or frustration, don’t force your pet to wear a costume.

The best costumes for pets are the ones that don’t make them feel too restricted or confined. You might be able to get away with something that goes on their head - a hat or crown perhaps - and something that ties (loosely) around their middle.

Anything more intricate than that probably isn’t going to work and could well end up a shredded, torn mess if your pet decides they don’t want to wear it.

The Internet is the best place to find Halloween pet costumes, although they are also available in many pet stores as the holiday approaches. Online costume sources often have pages devoted to just pet costumes, whose sizes are usually based off of weight.

Costumes designed for pets should be made without any dangerous pieces, but you should always double check before getting your pet all dressed up. Watch for anything that could be swallowed or anything that could get tied up, whether around your pet’s neck, it’s legs, etc.

After all the hard work you will have done to find a costume and get it onto your pet, the most difficult part is sure to be getting the perfect picture. Though some pets will be good and sit quietly while you take a picture, for most it will require quite some effort to get your pet to calm down long enough for you to enjoy their costume.

Making Pets Part of the Halloween Fun

People dress up like animals all the time for Halloween - why not go the opposite way and dress your pets up like people? After all, pets are part of the family for a lot of people. They take them everywhere, buy them gifts, get spa treatments for them - why not a Halloween costume too?

Now, it goes without saying that dressing your pet in a Halloween costume is more for the owner’s enjoyment than the pet’s. Having said that, you’ll know your pet better than anyone.

Some pets don’t like wearing clothes at all. If they are showing signs of stress or frustration, don’t force your pet to wear a costume.

Pets will do best with unrestrictive, flexible costumes. Hats, crowns, and other headgear are usually alright in addition to some sort of clothing that can be tied around their midsection, although it should be loose.

It is best to leave pet costumes simple. If they become too complex, the animal could decide that they don’t want to have it on and rip up the outfit in the end anyway.

Many pet stores carry pet costumes, especially around Halloween, but you’ll probably find the best selection online. Most costume websites also carry costumes for pets, which are usually sized according to the animal’s weight.

Before putting your pet’s new costume on them, be sure to look for any pieces that they might be able to get tied up in or swallow. Most costumes are made to be safe for pets, but you should always double check.

After all the hard work you will have done to find a costume and get it onto your pet, the most difficult part is sure to be getting the perfect picture. Though some pets will be good and sit quietly while you take a picture, for most it will require quite some effort to get your pet to calm down long enough for you to enjoy their costume.

How to Find a Great Darth Vader Costume

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008
by Phil Sikes

There are lots of people who are nuts about Star Wars. After all, just look at how many people would line up for days or even weeks before each new movie was released. And if you ever saw one of the movies on opening night, you probably saw some Stormtrooper suits and Darth Vader costumes in the crowd.

Darth Vader costumes tend to be designed for those fans truly obsessed with the world of Star Wars. That’s because they are not easy to arrange and tend to be very difficult to both put on and take off.

For the majority of true Star Wars fans, becoming Darth Vader by means of a realistic, high-tech costume has been a childhood fantasy, complete with dreams of battles with light sabers against the Jedi knights.

The imagination may be a little less active these days, but I’d still like to go all out one year for Halloween and splurge for a super-detailed Darth Vader. I’ve never been one for those nerdy conventions where everybody argues the little details about Star Wars that George Lucas most likely never thought of himself so Halloween is the only time I’d get away with dressing as the Sith Lord.

If you’re thinking of a Darth Vader costume for Halloween this year, it’s time to get on the ball. The big night isn’t far away, and the best costumes get harder to find as you get closer to the night.

If you’re thinking of ordering online, the best costume websites will ship right up until a couple of days before Halloween but by then you might be stuck as an Ewok - the cool characters could be sold out.

The Internet will be the best place to find your costume if there are not professional costume shops in your area. Online shops also have a better selection. Department and drug stores don’t offer the high quality costumes that diehard Vader fans are looking for.

Whoever you may be, young or old, male or female; a full body Darth Vader costume can be your ultimate costume. Complete with a mask to hide your identity (if you so choose), great movie quotes, and some creepy breathing sounds, a Darth Vader costume will liven up your Halloween for sure.

Adult Costumes for Halloween that Make You Look Good

Monday, July 7th, 2008
by Fred Tellier

Despite what many people believe, Halloween is not just for kids. Adults have just as much fun attend Halloween parties as children, and the costumes can be just as elaborate. Shopping for Halloween costumes can be very exciting, especially if you are attending the party with someone and want your Halloween costumes to be themed. Any businesses that cater to the public hold special Halloween parties where there are contests and prizes for the best costumes. When you are attending this type of party, it is important to have the perfect Halloween costume.

Although traditional Halloween costumes include witches and princesses, adult Halloween costumes are as varied as children. However, adult costumes include a completely different genre than children. Many adults choose costumes that have an adult theme that can surely win the contests that are held. A sexy costume will most likely beat a witches costume every time.

So, what are your options for clean adult Halloween costumes? Basically, your options are endless. Many costume shops now sell adult Halloween costumes. Of course, it is no longer cute for an adult to go as the little princesses they may have been when children. However, there are many creative costumes. Often very colorful shirts, shorts, and hats can be combined to make a costume. Old sheets, curtains, and games can be combined to make a costume. If not crafty at all, or not in the mood or out of time for making a costume, buying a costume is a good option.

Clean costumes that can be bought are almost endless. These clean costumes often take the ideas of being crafty and create costumes on a professional level. For example, a woman could easily take an old twister game and put the sheet on a dress or try to make some clothing out of it, putting the spinner board on a hat. Yet, that woman could also buy an adult Halloween costume that is a dress that is made with the Twister pattern and already has hat that is made with the spinner board on top. Other costumes that are not as traditional may be insects, other animals, and food.

Older standbys are both popular and easy to customize. There are witches and wizards at every Halloween party and this type of costume is easy to make. You have the choice of being scary or kindly. You can make the costume mainly or partly from your own clothes and add your own personal touches to make it yours. Pirate costumes are quite popular nowadays too. You can use different styles and colors when making a pirate costume. You might like to be a cheeky deckhand in black and white or a wooden-legged pirate with a bright stripy outfit. You might want to attach a toy bird to your shoulder for a fun touch! You can really let your imagination fly if you want to create an adult costume like this.

Choosing a Halloween costume is one thing that most people look forward to every year, not just children, but adults also. Creativity is the key to choosing any Halloween costume. Edited by Hetsil Protage

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

GARDEN GROVE When Vicki Conner and her son, Brent Conner, walked through the doors of UCI Medical Center Halloween night, they’d just learned that Brent’s12-year-old son, Nick, had been struck by a sport utility vehicle and was, as a result, in the hospital’s trauma unit. Slowly, the doctor added that he could perform a risky surgery to take out the left bone flap from his head, which would relieve the pressure and swelling in Nick’s brain - if it didn’t kill him. As he lay unconscious on the street, one of his friends grabbed a cell phone and called Brent, telling him that Nick had been in an accident and had broken his leg. On Day 28, the swelling in Nick’s brain subsided for the first time and got to a point where his bone flap could be put back inside his head. More Halloween News
