(Halloween News) Duxbury resident publishes children’s book - Duxbury Reporter

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

Susie Caliendo has loved Halloween since she was a child, when she and her sister used to turn their family barn into a haunted house. Now, as a mother of three, the Duxbury resident has taken her love of writing, joy in decorating and fond memories of Halloween with her sister and her children and turned them into a children’s book. Caliendo said she was able to work with the designer and describe every small detail of how she wanted the page to look. Throughout the writing, editing and even the creative process, her children were helping her, giving her ideas and critiques. More Halloween News

GARDEN GROVE When Vicki Conner and her son, Brent Conner, walked through the doors of UCI Medical Center Halloween night, they’d just learned that Brent’s12-year-old son, Nick, had been struck by a sport utility vehicle and was, as a result, in the hospital’s trauma unit. Slowly, the doctor added that he could perform a risky surgery to take out the left bone flap from his head, which would relieve the pressure and swelling in Nick’s brain - if it didn’t kill him. As he lay unconscious on the street, one of his friends grabbed a cell phone and called Brent, telling him that Nick had been in an accident and had broken his leg. On Day 28, the swelling in Nick’s brain subsided for the first time and got to a point where his bone flap could be put back inside his head. More Halloween News

Topic: Halloween News - the Fourth of July, l940-53 - San Francisco Bay Guardian

Friday, July 4th, 2008

Perhaps it was just too dangerous for them to start making firecracker arrests on the Fourth ┠on the same principle, I guess, that it was dangerous to do too much about the swashbuckling on Halloween or start running down dogs without leashes (Mayor Earl Fisher used to run on the platform that, as long as he was in office, no dog in town would have to be leashed. Fireworks are dangerous, our parents would say, and each year they would dust off the old chestnut about the drugstore in Spencer that had a big stock of fireworks and they caught fire one night and much of the downtown went up in a spectacular shower of roman candles and sparkling fountains. Appropriately, the celebration was sponsored by the Rex Strait post of the American Legion (Strait, so the story went, was the first boy from Rock Rapids to die on foreign soil during World War I); the legionnaires were a bunch of good guys from the cleaners and the feed store and the bank who sponsored the American Legion baseball team each summer. There was always a big carnival, with a ferris wheel somewhere in the center for the kids, a bingo stand for the elders, a booth where the ladies from the Methodist Church sold homemade baked goods, sometimes a hootchy dancer or two, and a couple of dank watering holes beneath the grandstand where the VFW and the Legion sold Grainbelt and Hamms at 30¢ a bottle to anybody who looked of age. At the end, the flag ┠red, white and blue ┠would burst forth on the ground as the All-American finale in the darkest of the dark summer nights. But I feel better knowing that, back where I come from, everybody in town will be on their porches and on the backroads on the evening of the Fourth to watch the fireworks and that, somewhere in town, a little boy will put a big firecracker under a tin can on a wood porch, then light out for the lilacs behind the barn. WHO'S COOKING - Newsday- Halloween News

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

It’s really easy because I get the dough from a local pizzeria; before you eat it, you have to take a picture and sing the national anthem. Flour the surface of a 12-by-17-inch rimmed baking pan; roll the dough out to about 1/4-inch thickness or spread the dough out evenly with your hands to fit the pan. This is the “dark blue” area of the flag; place it in the upper left-hand quadrant of the sauced dough. Cut circles, as small as you can, from the eggplant slice and place them, in some regular pattern, on the unskinned eggplant half to make a field of “stars. More Halloween News

Blood feud - North Shore Sunday- Topic: Halloween News

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Tropical Products makes about a million orders of the costume blood every year, and now they’re producing a line to benefit the city of Salem. Officials were on board with the idea and plans began to roll out to design the label with the Haunted Happenings logo and pitch it to local vendors, especially tourist shops where the product would best sell. The blood, however, has struck a nerve — or a vein — because the bottles they’re being packaged in bear the Haunted Happenings logo, which includes the image of a witch flying on a broomstick. Kate Fox is the director of Destination Salem, the city’s public-private tourism agency, which has been involved in planning the rollout of Haunted Happenings Costume Blood. The only reason a witch is pictured on the bottle is that it’s part of the Haunted Happenings logo, and it’s a Haunted Happenings product. The blood is intended mostly for tourists, who he believes will buy it not because of a correlation to the past, but to enhance a costume and take home a souvenir. More Halloween News

HALLOWEEN Parts Ways With Guitarist - June 22, 2008 - Blabbermouth.net(Halloween News)

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

Donny has been a staple in this band for over 16 years and we love him like a brother, he will always be family and we hope the best for him. As soon as we get some of the mixes finalized, we will be putting a couple of tracks up for everyone to check out. As a Halloween fan I have no beef with the German fast Maiden type of band, but Halloween’s “Don’t Metal with Evil” as a cassette demo album, predates The Helloween EP, by a year or more.
