Fly Away On Fairy Wings In Your Fairy Halloween Costume

Friday, March 12th, 2010
by Susan West

I’m sure you have seen your share of angel Halloween costumes over the years. What you don’t see is the look of heaven brought to a Halloween costume done in a very unique way. Most angel wings these days are regurgitated versions of costumes we’ve seen one too many Halloweens. Why not take your golden halo to another level this year with an updated version of the angel costume?

Prior to designing, or heading out to purchase, your angel Halloween costumes this year, it might be a good idea to get some ideas going in your head. Will you follow the traditional white color scheme, or will you color outside the lines and try adding some bold color? Will you be a ‘good’ angel or a ‘bad’ angel? These are all things to be considered up front.

Many cultures across the world have different ideas on what the angel actually looks like. By doing some upfront research into the history of angels, you can come up with angel Halloween costumes that are more authentic looking. But keep in mind that your angel costume doesn’t have to follow any historical format at all; on the contrary, this is Halloween, you can go all out with your creativity!

When thinking about the specifics of your angel costume keep in mind the three basic components: feather wings, halo (usually a golden halo), and a robe (usually white). These three components are a guide and are in no ways meant to restrict you in designing your adult Halloween costumes this year. Your angel can have a little more grit; it can even be downright devious. And who says the robe needs to be white; you could add some drama through color if you want.

The point is simple: angel Halloween costumes don’t have to be executed in the same old ways of the past. The golden halo doesn’t have to be golden, you can try a different color; heck, you could even replace the halo with a wreath of flowers if you wanted. Get creative, look around your local craft store for inexpensive alternatives. As for the wings, feather wings are the standard choice; but you can make your own wings (and they don’t have to be white).

Adding your own special embellishments can also help you personalize your angel Halloween costumes. If you are a bible toting angel, maybe your robe has scriptures written all over. If you are a ‘bad’ angel, maybe you carry a pitch fork to go with your bloody red halo. You can adjust your angel costume to put people in the mind of heaven, or hel,l if you’d like.

Think about having a little extra fun this Halloween by choosing angel Halloween costumes of an opposing nature for you and a friend. One person can put the golden halo on atop a curly blond wig donning a glowing white robe; the other partner can play the opposite and wear a costume that is more Lucifer inspired. To really go all out, consider adding a touch of role play by pretending to be arch enemies at any parties attended together, you’ll garner lots of attention and make for a more fun evening.

The point I want to make is that your angel Halloween costumes don’t have to be the same old drab seen in previous years. Go ahead, change the look, and update it by adding more bells and whistles. One creative thought would be to pay someone to play the role of ‘demon’ at your Halloween party. Do what you can to make this year’s angel Halloween costumes have a more updated edge. Have fun and be different with your angel costume this year. Edited by Hetsil Protage

by Susan West

Adult Halloween costumes are worn by many adults who are still in touch with their inner child. These are people who don’t mind joining in to celebrate Halloween with the rest of the kids. The question arises for every adult at Halloween: Do I dress up this year or not? If the answer is yes, you’ll find that there are many women Halloween costumes to choose from. Your first stop, however, will be in determining whether or not you’ve got the nerve to put your costume on along-side all the children.

Picking out Adult Halloween Costumes are always more fun when done with a buddy. Do you have a friend, or mate, who’s a part of picking out an outfit for the both of you on Halloween? If you do, then plan your outfits and have fun this Halloween.

Up front decisions need to be made about where your adult Halloween costumes will be worn. Depending on whether or not you’ll be attending a party at night or one held at your job, you may have to adjust outfits accordingly. You may even have several places to wear your costume this year, if that’s the case then you (and your friends) may want to go all out with your Halloween outfits.

It is worth pointing out, however, that your job may not be the best place to wear certain adult Halloween costumes. You know your profession better than anyone else - will your costume be appropriate in an office setting? If the answer is yes, you still may want to find a costume that won’t expose too much or attract the type of attention that takes away distract from work. Women’s costumes are most often in jeopardy of this, but men’s costumes should also be toned down when necessary as well.

Guys will still have to watch out for any inappropriate messages their costume may convey. A mens costume that features off color language or a racy joke should probably be left at home or saved for a friend’s Halloween party.

Consider the amount of space you have at your place of employment as well. If you work in a tight cubical, you should keep your costume small. An adult Halloween costume does not necessarily have to be a full body affair. A simple headband with cute ears, or maybe a little face paint, could be enough to feel festive without becoming intrusive to your coworkers.

These are also considerations to be made when attending Halloween parties as well. Check with your host to determine what type of guests will be at the party. What adult wants to be caught wearing adult Halloween costumes that are inappropriate for children who ended up being at the party - not you!

Take steps to make sure this isn’t another year where you choose to wear some obtrusive clown suit to a party where no one else has bothered to change out of street clothes. Adult Halloween costumes are better when worn to an actual ‘costume party’. To avoid any of this, call ahead with questions if you have to; or you could just do your thing without a worry for what another may think!

Keep in mind that dressing up in any of the vast choices of adult Halloween costumes can be just as exciting for grownups as well as kids. Just remember to choose your adult Halloween costumes with your own personality in mind; also, it is critical for men and women to make sure that their outfits are appropriate for the occasion. It is only necessary to follow a few guidelines to ensure that you avoid any social mishaps this Halloween season. Edited by Glinda Zuladra

Be A Groovy Dude In A Groovy 1970’s Halloween Costume

Friday, March 5th, 2010

70s Halloween costumes don’t seem to be going out of style anytime soon. Every year in October people are going for the retro look of the 70s. Whether you are doing the famous ‘hippy’ look or just pairing some go-go boots with a groovy hairstyle - either way, you’ll find many options for going retro with your options for 70s Halloween costumes.

Hippies were a big, if not controversial, part of the’70s. Bell-bottom pants and tie-dyed shirts were all the rage. Release your inner flower child with a totally groovy, hippy look. It can be fun to be one with nature, even if it is for only one night out of the year. Do not get too caught up in the lifestyle, though. If you plan to party with friends, I highly recommend you still bathe!

British music was popular during the’70s as well. The genre became just as famous in the United States as it was across the pond. Consider Brit themed attire, complete with Sergeant Peppers-style jacket, either purchased or handmade. If you play guitar, why not practice a few Beatles riffs and bring your instrument along to really live the part.

If the hippy scene is not appealing, and you are not a fan of British tunes, consider going retro chic. Short dresses, bright colors, go-go boots, and a neckerchief will complete the look perfectly. Think of 70s Halloween costumes that resemble Daphne from Scooby Doo!

There is a variety of styles to choose from the 70s. If you are having a hard time coming up with an idea, consider who the important figures in music and movies were during that decade. The 70s brought with it a number of eccentric and loved celebrities. Mimicking an existing look can simplify your costume conundrum. Fans of your chosen figure will surely love, or hate, you for it.

Since you have decided on doing a 70s inspired costume for Halloween it may be a good idea to try putting a new spin on the old. No need to do the same old thing when it comes to your 70s Halloween costumes. There are tons of famous, as well as ‘B’ movies, to draw inspiration from when it comes to narrowing down your costume choices. So do some research and see if you can’t find a George Lucas or Michael Crichton character to bring to life on Halloween.

Acting the part will add realistic life to your look. Find out what words were commonly used based on which style you have chosen. If you are really adventurous, try mastering a British accent to go along with the British musician look. You may not make the girls scream, but they will definitely laugh.

Have fun designing the details of your 70s Halloween costumes; this is after all one of the most popular decades of the 20th century. With so many strong characters and personalities you’ll find that there are a myriad of options on how best to go retro with your costume. Don’t forget to add the extra bells and whistles of also acting the part. Doing these things can help you go beyond go-go boots and bell-bottoms; you can actually end up with some one-of-a-kind 70s Halloween costumes options. Edited by Hetsil Protage

What About Wearing Trendy In Adult Halloween Costumes?

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010
by Susan West

Adult Halloween costumes are a tricky business. Once you reach a certain age, some people find the whole celebration thing a bit juvenile. Others happily don their unique outfits with more enthusiasm than some children display. The big question is “do I dress up for Halloween?” The choices for adult Halloween costumes are vast. However, the first step is determining whether or not it is worth your time, and possibly your dignity, to get dressed up at all.

If you have decided to choose from a selection of Adult Halloween costumes to don this year, it might not be a bad idea to bring a friend along. Why not get your best friend involved, or possibly a mate, and get your Halloween costumes together this year?

It?s probably best to think about where you will be wearing your Halloween costume. Will it require a wig or maybe even a cape. There are trendy adult Halloween costumes and there are also costumes that are much more homemade. If you’ve got a trick-or-treating date, or a big party to attend, why not get dressed on day when it won?t seem weird?

Now you might not want to wear your adult Halloween costumes to work if the environment is extremely professional. To be on the safe side, check to see if it’s okay before wearing anything outrageous when Halloween comes. If it turns out you can wear your costume to work, remember it is still your job. This means that the women?s costumes shouldn’t show their breasts, this isn’t appropriate office wear. And while it?s not as much of a problem, men should use discretion as well.

This same principal can be applied to Halloween parties. If you must, ask your host or hostess who will be in attendance. Even if the gathering was purely adults in previous years. You never know when someone may bring along little Johnny or Susie this year because no sitter was available.

So go ahead and wear your super outrageous clown costume this year; just make sure you dress up to attend a party where everyone else is sporting their adult Halloween costumes as well. All you have to do is call ahead and double check on the attire for the event, this will prevent you from wearing yours when no one else is wearing their adult Halloween costumes. Taking these steps can help you avoid embarrassment.

Adult Halloween costumes can be just as much fun as any children costumes. Choose something that fits your personality, yet is appropriate for who will see you. Following a few simple tips can help streamline your holiday and prevent you from falling into any social Halloween traps. Have fun with adult Halloween costumes, but do so responsibly. Halloween Date Night

Monday, February 1st, 2010
by Jim Slate

Slate and Artstone - The moon is full, the sky is dark, and gremlins are lurking in every nook and shadow. A terrifying thrill is in the air, and you can feel it racing down your spine. As the night deepens, the howl of a wolf sounds in the distance, prompting your date to yelp and snuggle closer. You look into one another’s eyes, and as the terror threatens to overwhelm you, passion steps in taking fears place and overwhelming you with the desires of the evening. Going out with someone on Halloween is a great way to ensure an atmosphere that is absolutely perfect for love. It may seem ironic that a holiday dedicated to monsters and ghouls could be romantic, but everyone knows that the best date movie is one which will scare your partner right into your arms.

Fear is exciting, terror is fun, and on Halloween you can’t turn around without finding someone who wants to scare you. Even if you and your date are too jaded to actually jump at silly noises and fake ghosts, it will still put your subconscious on guard, making you more sensitive to emotion and stimulus. This is all part of the human mind’s amazing ability to react and adapt to any situation. In times of fear, we tend to turn to love, even lust, as a way of coping with the stress of a situation. The whole point of Halloween is to train our mind to adapt to negative stimulus in a safe and fun environment, and to wake us up from the sleepy day to day dream of life we float through.

Aside from the philosophically strategic benefits to dating on Halloween, it is also easy. There are a variety of activities set up for kids, adults, or both which allow you to plan an exciting date adventure, without having to go to a lot of trouble or expense. Some ideas include

- Going to a Haunted House: Most communities have organizations such as schools or local cubs that set up haunted houses for the public at little or no cost

- Go to a Scary Movie: Horror movie makers schedule the release of the best movies for late October. Those who don’t, usually schedule the release of the DVD’s around this time

- Halloween Parties: A lot of people throw big monster mash balls to celebrate the holiday. Check your local bulletin or ask around.

- Major Public Events: Aside from haunted houses, communities will often throw parades, fairs, or carnivals for Halloween. One of the most famous is the parade held in Greenwich Village NY each year,

If you want to be cute, you can have a pre-date date, where you and your partner make your Halloween costumes. This can be as simple as going shopping together, or as elaborate as visiting a craft store and seeing what catches your eye.

The bottom line is, Halloween is a great night for a date. The atmosphere is already inspired with excitement and fear, and the evening is usually full of built in activities which are fun and inexpensive. Best of all, people tend to be more uninhibited when dressed in a fantasy costume, so you never know what might happen next.

Halloween, Children and Paganism

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010
by John Scott

Halloween is a holiday celebrate by thousands upon thousands of teens and even adults. While not every country keeps the Halloween tradition, hundreds of thousands of children can be found trick-or-treating in the United States and in many other especially those of Anglo-Saxon background. While some love Halloween, there are some who are just as passionately in opposition to this holiday. Interesting are the pagan origins of the celebration the history of which stretches back thousands of years to the ancient pagans who existed even before Jesus’ day.

These are some historical facts about the roots of Halloween:

Halloween’s roots date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. It is said to have began with the Celts. The Celts lives around 2,000 years ago in what is now the United Kingdom, Ireland and northern France. The celebration at that time was on November 1 or October 31.

It was associated with the the beginning of the cold winter, dark and affiliated with fear of death. Celts had superstitious ideas and truly believed that on the night before, the boundary between the world of the living and dead became blurred. They believed that the souls of the dead returned to the earth revisiting their homes. In addition to the presence of these bad spirits, Celts felt that the presence of these spirits to be able to predict the future. These predictions were help much importance for a primitive and uneducated people, such as the Celts. They celebration took on sinister significance, with ghosts which were thought to be active on that night of malevolent activity.

People burned bonfires on hilltops to scare off evil spirits and demons, and people sacrificed both crops and animal sacrifices to pagan Celtic gods. Costumes were worn during these ceremonies, and they usually consisted of animal heads and skins.

The name Halloween itself has its origins with the Roman Catholic Church. By the 9th Century, the festival had been influenced a mixture of pagan teachings and Christianity that had become an integral part of the Catholic religion. Immigrants then brought the practice to the U.S., in particular the Irish. These then became popular around the late 19th century. Halloween has always been a holiday and fright. Because of the forgoing reasons and because of the pagan practices of Halloween, many Christians of various genres, do not participate in the the holiday or its customs.
