Beginning at about toddler age and up, children have a large choice of Halloween costumes to choose from when they go look for their favorite. They can dress up as just about anyone they choose. Most stores will cater with abandon to this age group, so there is a lot of selection. If there’s a popular movie out, such as the Shrek series, you will find any character from that movie. The same holds true for any character from the Harry Potter movies. Of course, Disney classics like Snow White are always favorites forevermore.

Some great ideas for girl’s costumes include witches, fairies, and even angels. Dora the Explorer, Bratz, and even Shrek are great movies and TV shows that many costumes are created after, along with the many Disney movies that are both new and classic. Girls can even dress up as pirates, goblins, and other scary characters if they like.

Boys have many different costumes to choose from for Halloween, no matter how old they are. There are many great accessories that can be put on to make a little boy look like a zombie or creature visiting from the dead, but some help from mom is normally necessary to apply the makeup. Boys can also choose to dress up as Shrek, Superman, Spiderman, and even one of the characters from Fantastic 4 if they like, since finding these costumes will be fairly simple this Halloween season. Masks and hats are also popular with toddler boys, since they can play dress up on this holiday packed full of fun and candy.

Halloween costumes can be purchased at department stores, Halloween specialty stores, or even online. The most popular costumes are normally targeted to movies and television shows, but the classics and Halloween related costumes are also a favorite year after year. Halloween is a great time for toddlers, babies, and infants to dress up as their favorite characters, and it can be fun for the parents as well. You can let your children choose whatever they want for a costume this holiday season, or even pick a theme or movie that your entire family can be included in. Edited by Glinda Zuladra

Thirty Eight - 1950s Halloween Costumes Don’t Have To Conform

by Adam Ethan

Embrace the nostalgia this October with ’50s Halloween costumes for the whole family. Gather up all the greaser wigs for the boys, poodle skirts for the girls, and jump in your hot rod cars headed for a 50s inspired Halloween. Seriously, there may not be any hot rods, but you definitely could get outfitted in the attire of day. A whole family in ’50s Halloween costumes is sure to be a hit this Halloween.

Although there are no hard and fast rules to creating ’50s Halloween costumes, you should make sure that they have lots of flavor and flair once completed. Keep in mind, there was much social division still happening in the 50s, so it will be up to you to choose which trend you want to follow when it comes to your costumes.

Get those men together, throw a leather jacket over a white t-shirt and watch them show off their best John Travolta from “Grease” impersonation. You can even go all the way to the other side with it and dress the guys in pocket protectors and bowties. This ‘nerd’ look is just as much a representation of ’50s Halloween Costumes as those that are ‘cool’.

Now for the ladies there are comparable options to try out for ’50s Halloween costumes. Everyone knows about the standard poodle skirt coupled with a crisp white blouse and baby-doll socks. This look is usually worn with some cute ponytail covered in ribbon. But for this part a girl might want to try being a 50s bad girl; she’d be sporting the super tight pants with a ‘Pink Ladies’ styled jacket to complete the look.

The little ones have not been forgotten either. They can wear miniature version of the ’50s Halloween costumes. So get that poodle skirt in the little girl size and check on a greaser wig for little junior as well. Wouldn’t it be cute if mother and daughter mimicked each other the same way father and son did? I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t love seeing little Olivia Newton John or John Travolta from “Grease” on Halloween!

To some, ’50s was all about conforming. That does not mean your costume has to be boring and bland. Use your favorite color or add embellishments to your poodle skirt. A cute leash or a few fabric-glued gems can create a dazzling effect.

Really live the part and learn the language of the times! Watch an old film, or browse the internet for websites devoted to the ’50s. If you are not sure what words were popular in everyday speech, the resources are out there, or pop in your Happy Days DVD or VHS. Make all who see you think they have been transported back in time!

1950s Halloween costumes can be fun, and easy to make. Keep it as simple as you want to, or as elaborate as you like, complete with slang from the times. The best part is that this costume style is usually easily recognizable and comfortable to wear. There are a variety of styles to choose, ranging from the super nerdy to the ultra cool. Enjoy the nostalgia and appeal of this long gone decade with personalized ’50s Halloween costumes for the whole family! Edited by Hetsil Protage

Twenty Six - Cute Tumbling Toddler Halloween Costumes That Are More “Treat” Than “Trick”

Friday, April 22nd, 2011
by Ethan Owen

When it comes to making your own infant or toddler Halloween costumes, you can have the time of your life! It may be challenging to find just the right costumes, as you stay within your budget and create a infant or toddler Halloween costume that is both safe to wear while being easy to get in and out of.

For the most part infant costumes are relatively safe. A cotton sweat pea is not just comfortable, but also lacks potentially dangerous pieces that may either cover the face or have sharp edges. If your “baby” is walking, keeping him or her relegated to the stroller is just not going to work. Find a toddler costume that allows for free movement and does not block their eyesight. As you approach that first house, chances are your little angel will hurriedly reach for the door. This is when you find out if that toddler Halloween costume will be a trick or a treat.

TIP: Look for a costume that has room to wear clothing underneath! If the cool evening doesn’t beg for extra clothing under that superhero, chances are your little one will eventually get tired of plastic pants and butterfly wings. Find a toddler costume that also allows for a jacket if necessary. If you need to remove the top or bottom of the infant costume, you can still continue on to your favorite Halloween party.

Toddler costumes which are purchased or made should be checked over completely to assure that safety comes first. This includes the review of masks as to not obstruct vision. Far better would be face painting, which in no way interferes with their ability to see what they are walking toward or what may be coming toward them. Flowing costumes which are lengthy should be inspected to be certain that they are not too long and will create hazards when walking or running. Wonderful new toddler Halloween costumes are available which include the use face paints rather than a mask.

Want the safest suit possible? Opt for a suit that has few pieces and no mask. Some cute toddler costume ideas include a monkey, doggy, kitty or princess. Use face paint instead of a mask and easily attach ears or a crown with either a headband or barrettes. A shortened monkey tail will also help avoid potential tripping. TIP: make sure your little prince or princess can easily get in and out of the suit. This makes bathroom breaks as simple as possible!

Depending on the age of your little “trick or treater,” they may still be putting everything into their mouth. Avoid any dangling pieces that Jr. and Suzy will want to taste. An infant Halloween costume should obviously avoid any elaborate hood or head coverings.

Of course, modern infant and toddler Halloween costumes are much safer than they have been in years gone by. Normally Halloween costumes are made of flame retardant materials. You should check to make sure that all your Halloween costumes are flame retardant as there are so many risks to the safety rules when regarding children and the use of candles inside jack o’ lanterns. It is best to use glow sticks in place of candles when at all possible. Safety should always be key in dressing a child up in a Halloween costume, whether an infant or a toddler.

Toddler Halloween costumes and infant Halloween costumes should be fun and interesting, not a hazard which may take what is a night of magic and fun to something far less than that. With a bit of care and inspection of what your child is wearing, your Halloween will be safe and fun for you and your child. Edited by Glinda Zuladra

by Robert Baker

Have you heard the superstition that if a black cat crosses your path you will have bad luck? Or perhaps that black cats are connected to witches and magic? In the United States, black cats are connected with many negative superstitions.

As luck would have it, black cats are the most common color in animal shelters. Did you know that black cats have the lowest rate of adoption and highest rate of being put to sleep? For whatever reason, black cats statistically tend to not be adopted than other colors of cats.

These negative suggestions cause problems in the month of October when shelters and rescues in America stop adopting black cats. They worry that this is the month when folks are looking to do bad things to cats that are all black. Naturally, this means that the euthanasia rates in October are the highest.

It is high time for animal rescues to use the same adoption processes they do throughout the year. After all, if someone wants find a cat and hurt it, they can do it anytime. People is animal welfare typically have a gut sense about folks who are up to no good- why does this good judgment get turned off in October?

Lately, there has been research regarding black cats vs. other colors. This has yet to be verified, but as someone who is owned by a black cat and has helped many black cats get adopted I can tell you this: Black cats have outgoing, playful personalities Black cats are smart- mine opens doors, opens cabinets, and sometimes shuts doors. When my bedroom door slams in the middle of the night and the only cat in the room is my black one, I have tried to blame it on the open window, but I wonder… Sometimes it seems as if they know they are the undercat so they try harder to get attention and show off …and isn’t it said that black goes with everything?

Next time someone tells you that a black cat crossing your path is bad luck leave them with this thought: A black cat crossing your path signifies that the animal is going somewhere. - Groucho Marx

Seventeen - Use Theater Makeup To Dress Up In Halloween Costumes

Thursday, March 24th, 2011
by Jaden Benjamin

While dressing up for Halloween or as other characters such as a clown, theater or stage makeup works wonders. You can change into a sweet princess or a hideous ghoul or anything in between when using theater makeup. Whatever character you want to dress up as, it is even more possible with theater makeup.

Children and adults can dress up as anything they please, since Halloween is such a fun filled holiday. The use of stage makeup can transform a little girl into an enchanting fairy or a little boy into the most frightening vampire. Stage makeup is useful for many things such as creating wounds and scars while dressing as a goblin or zombie or it can create the look of fake blood on a witch or other supernatural characters. With stage makeup, the old can look young while the young can look old as well as making the loveliest of all look like an old hag. Theater makeup is wonderful for creating any Halloween look and it is fun to use for all ages. http://www.costumecauldron.com/Kids-Fortune-Teller-Gypsy-Costumes.html

We’ve all been to a school play or two, and what is cuter than seeing your little “apple,” or “banana” trying to remember the choreography to that aggressive 2nd Grade number? Well, without the help of theatrical makeup, the extra details that put it all together would be sorely missed. Stage makeup is an essential for grade schools. How else could Mrs. M make Johnny a convincing Abe Lincoln, complete with wrinkles and top hat? Theatrical makeup can basically make you into whatever you want. It is a valuable teaching tool.

Mimes and clowns make use of Halloween clown makeup to complete their appearance, which really offers the children some good laughs. Mime performers, while painting their entire face white and then adding various colors in different designs and shapes around the eyes and mouth often use clown makeup. Children are thoroughly entertained at birthday parties and other events by clowns and mimes in their colorful stage makeup.

Theater makeup can add additional characteristics to a character such as fake wounds and pointed ears. Theater makeup can aid in blending in a prosthetic prop onto the face and body, giving them a more realistic appearance. For instance, you can add a mole to a costume of a witch, or you can add comical ears to elf and fairy costumes. Theater makeup is also useful for adding additional effects to a latex prosthetic piece, such as with pus or blood by blending different colors.

You can brighten things up a bit, at sports games while painting your face with your team colors if you have any Halloween makeup hidden away in your cabinets or makeup drawer. There is no better way to show your team spirit while cheering on your favorite sports team while wearing Halloween clown or stage makeup. http://www.costumecauldron.com/Kids-Skeleton-Ghost-Costumes.html

Theatrical makeup is surprisingly versatile. Obvious uses include creating ghosts, goblins, vampires and witches on Halloween (how can you be the wicked witch without her signature mole?). But it also comes in handy for those quarterly school plays. Try to think of creative ways to use the makeup. School carnival? Be a face painter! Every little girl wants a little heart or butterfly on her cheek. Sporting event? Get into the spirit with those team colors! There are numerous uses for stage makeup. Don’t be afraid to add a little dash here and there for dramatic effect. Edited by Glinda Zuladra
