Costume Parties For All Occasions

by Dianne Clarke

Everyone enjoys dressing up for the Halloween costume party and it seems like the laughter and conversation never runs out. It is fun and exciting to see each guest arrive and what they will be wearing and the more outrageous and inventive the costumes, the more fun everyone seems to have.

Since these parties are one of the most loved events, it is a shame they are only brought out during the Halloween season. But what if they could be extended over the course of an entire year? The following are some great ways to add a new twist on your traditional holiday gatherings. Remember that any festivity can benefit from these types of parties, and you shouldn’t limit yourself to just the ones suggested.

When you have a Christmas costume party, you will find a number of people come as Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus. Sprinkled in the mix you may have some people who decide they want to be elves, or reindeer. In addition the really creative people in your life will have some original concepts. You may see everything from snowmen to snowflakes. Even more than that, you could find a person coming dressed as a Christmas tree with their friends dressed as presents beneath it. If you offer prize for the best costume, you never know what might just end up on your doorstep next.

Another great example for a potentially fun costume party is the 4th of July. This holiday allows the perfect time to go retro in costume parties and have people dress up like the founders of our country. Sure you will get Thomas Jefferson and George Washington in excess, but you might also get some creative individuals that dress up like a bald eagle, or a pen quill maybe even The Declaration of Independence itself. There is no better way to celebrate this important date and it gives people a chance to focus on the holiday itself and what it means to them.

When the winter months have you getting down and blue, consider a fairytale themed costume party, this can be fun when you see the people in your life dressed up in humorous costumes. From your 6′5″ husband standing tall as “Little Jack Horner” to grandma dressed up like “Little Bo Peep” there is something strikingly amusing and fun about everyone going back to childhood and having a great time.

But it is understandable that some people prefer a serious and elegant affair. For those people that want that, a ball can be the way to go. Perhaps have high quality masks to cover the faces of everyone made from porcelain and allow mystery and romance to fill the night. Adding this event to a charity even can help to bring in some important extra funding.

Children love costume parties as well. Take that into consideration and have a party with a theme that focuses on the costumes and not the surroundings. All the children can come dressed like superheroes or even pirates. Then give away little gift bags that focus on that theme.

Even teenagers enjoy a fun costume party now and then as long as the theme is geared towards their interest. While a costume party may not be right for every occasion, they can provide interest, fun and mystery and provide a break from our normal party routine. So go ahead, plan that costume party whatever the occasion and let the fun and laughter begin.
