GARDEN GROVE When Vicki Conner and her son, Brent Conner, walked through the doors of UCI Medical Center Halloween night, they’d just learned that Brent’s12-year-old son, Nick, had been struck by a sport utility vehicle and was, as a result, in the hospital’s trauma unit. Slowly, the doctor added that he could perform a risky surgery to take out the left bone flap from his head, which would relieve the pressure and swelling in Nick’s brain - if it didn’t kill him. As he lay unconscious on the street, one of his friends grabbed a cell phone and called Brent, telling him that Nick had been in an accident and had broken his leg. On Day 28, the swelling in Nick’s brain subsided for the first time and got to a point where his bone flap could be put back inside his head. More Halloween News
