Halloween Costumes At The Eleventh Hour
Each year, millions of people spend weeks planning for and getting ready for the festivities of Halloween. But there are just as many people out there who wait until the last possible moment to even begin thinking about costumes. While things like decorations and candy can be obtained the day of, more important decisions such as what costume to wear usually requires a little more thought. Still, if you’re stuck and it’s the eleventh hour, all is not lost. With a little ingenuity, you’ll be ready for that party or haunted house in no time.
The important thing to remember is to stay calm rather than panicking. Your costume can still be good even though the costume stores are sold out. Rationally, catalog the various items around your home. Cardboard boxes, loose fabric, glitter, and face paint can all be transformed from random items in a junk drawer into a great Halloween costume.
A ghost costume is, of course, the classic last minute save. A clean white bed sheet and a good pair of scissors are the only two items you need. This outfit will also most likely garner you a number of compliments, due to its classic appeal.
Those old and unused cardboard boxes taking up space in your garage can also become a memorable and creative robot costume. You need boxes the right size for your body, arms and legs. Paint them whatever colors you have and let them dry. Paint robotic designs on them, cut holes in the top and bottom of each box, and you’re set!
You might find something good in your closet or attic. If your parents or grandparents will let you go through their old things, you could discover a gem. If you could find clothes from a different time period, they’d be a period costume and the hit of any party. An old suede jacket and hat or a 50s skirt and pink neckerchief, or any other combination is all you need.
You could put together a ninja costume in just minutes with a pair of black sweat pants, a black tee shirt and a bandana. Do you have younger siblings who might be willing to loan you some toys like plastic swords or throwing stars? If not, you could swing by Toys R Us on the way to the Halloween party and pick up a couple of items.
A zombie costume can be accomplished with just some fake blood and light foundation make-up. Applying the foundation and fake blood and messing up your hair will go a long way. Or just wear your regular clothes with some fake blood on them. It will look like you planned it out well in advance. Think up a good backstory to go with your costume.
If you’re really desperate and don’t have anything else on hand, you could wear pajamas. A terrycloth robe or a matching pair of colorful thermals both make great last minute outfits. These may not seem like costumes to you, but it will look like you had planned it for weeks. Wear your hair in pigtails or carry a large lollipop around with you and you could pass your outfit off as being a child or toddler, a humorous costume for an adult.
Don’t miss out on all the Halloween fun because you don’t have a costume. Take a few minutes, turn on the creativity, and have a great Halloween!
