Three Fun Halloween Ideas

by Geoffrey Diapprozziano

October arrives every year, and with it comes a superb opportunity to have seasonal good times. It’s a fun occasion with a spooky context. Enjoy everything the holiday has to offer with imaginative celebrations. We’ve got three hot ideas to make Halloween a swinging time for all.

Number One: Have a very special costume party theme: Everyone is aware you throw costume parties at Halloween, but you can do something a little more and a little extra special. When you come up with an interesting and enticing theme for your costumes, then you’ve added flavor to the occasion. My favorite theme ideas are “I am My Childhood Hero” and “I am My Favorite Movie Character.” These are always winners, and you will love a party built around these themes.

What makes these ideas successful? Number 1, they let your invitees be imaginative. The ideas let people kind of open up and display something of themselves. It’s playful and even intimate. It’s one thing to put on a pirate costume or a Frankenstein mask. It’s a lot more fun to arrive to a party dressed as something that is a favorite of mine all year round. Number 2, the ideas help your guests participate. Many of us struggle to think of costumes and your theme helps your friends think! If a person isn’t talented at coming up with cool ideas, you’ve started them off.

Two: Have games related to your theme. Again, anyone can have a costume parade and give gifts for the best costumes. But if you have a movie character theme, how about asking guests to stay in character for a portion of your party, to speak AS the character? Maybe they can come armed with trivia or quotes from that favorite movie. Then you can give prizes for the guest who did the best job of staying in character, the guest who fooled everyone, the person who guessed the most movies successfully, and so on. This will get your friends mingling and laughing and is a definite winner.

Idea number three: Turn your affair into a screening room! Even if you don’t have a home theater, you can set up several viewing screens with televisions and laptop computers, each with a different DVD. Your friends can help with bringing a laptop or two to the party. Every nook could have a scary movie playing, I Know What You Did Last Summer here, The Birds there, Nightmare on Elm Street by the front door. Or, connect the movies to your party theme. If it’s “favorite movie characters” you could have very big-name movies that don’t give away anyone’s personal secret identity. Fun ideas are Casino Royale, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and Gone With the Wind.

Using these easy techniques to make your theme more exciting is a great method of enjoying the best that the Halloween season has to offer.
